Trends in web design

Over time, more and more people use their computer and mobile devices every day, often choosing a contact via the Internet to go to a selected salon or company consultant. So no one is surprised that having a website is an absolute must-have to succeed. However, the number of websites is growing and it is increasingly difficult to make the user stay on our site. That is why it is worth to make sure that the first impression that our virtual visiting card leaves is not the last one. Below are the most important trends in the design of websites.

Website design trends: MINIMALISM

The trend that has absolutely dominated webdesign in recent years and still remains on the top is certainly minimalism. It serves not only to facilitate the use on mobile devices, but also helps to draw attention to what is most important. Therefore, endless pages will replace pages with smaller scrolling or so-called one-pages, reminiscent of the presentation, where the whole fits immediately on the screen, and for more you should reach for subpages.

I am also talking about a hidden menu (unveiled even by clicking on the “hamburger” – three horizontal bars usually placed in the upper corner of the page), or simply a menu minimized to a maximum of three positions, in this case hamburger machines can be used as an auxiliary.

It is also worth using the features of the empty space, which will give the impression of cleanliness and order and, again, focus on the most important element.

Trends in web design: FUN TEXT AND COLOR

Minimalism does not have to mean boredom. A simple way to add a minimalist page of charm is to skilfully use text and colors. Boring pages in shades of gray are now replacing colorful pages. You can choose not only bold colors, but also play with a gradient. A very clear return of this trend can be seen, for example, in the new Instagram logo or the new Facebook function, which consists in publishing posts on the background in the form of a gradient.

An interesting solution can also be smoothed brutality, referring to trends from the 90s – combining seemingly incompatible colors, huge texts and photos.

A minimalistic page does not have to be flat at all. When choosing semi-flat design, we add a delicate three-dimensional side to the side through carefully selected lights and shadows.

Extremely interesting solution is typography – large, bold fonts are popular, but Google has composed a whole gallery of fonts that will look great on the site. First of all, let yourself go beyond the frame – the text does not have to be flat and boring. It can be huge, distorted, occupy the entire screen space, and letters and animations can be integrated into the letters. The text can be the main character of the site.

Website design trends: WRITING WITH GRAPHICS

It is known that we are all visuals, which is why it is extremely important to catch the attention of the user with beautiful and above all interesting graphics. Starting from a custom page layout, to animation or even live stream in the background – the possibilities are endless.

Above all, however, the creators of the pages are giving up the recently popular photos from stock. Now, taking care of the company’s image, it is best to order an original photo session presenting the product or scenes from the backstage.

The photo can also be the main character of the main page. The so-called. Hero Image is not so much practical at the time, which serves to attract attention and interest of the user. Hero Image can also be a film or a recently popular cinemagraph – a photo with a movable fragment in gif format. Take a look at the dega.pl website created by us to see what the Hero Image site looks like.

An interesting and very popular trend is also parallax. The use of parallax means that some parts of the page scroll faster than others. It adds to the impression of three-dimensionality and – again – focuses on the most important content.

Of course, playing with such heavy graphic elements as animations or films, one must remember that the site can not be recharged for too long. According to Google’s research, as many as 40% of users leave the website if it loads more than 3 seconds.

Trends in web design: WAKING UP TO ACT

The best way to get the user interested and encourage them to stay on the site longer is to stimulate them. The user must have a feeling that the site is not a dead text, a list of information to review, only that you can do something with it. Already introducing the possibility to like, share or comment fragments of the site encourages interaction.

Keep in mind the “Call To Action” (CTA) buttons that increase the likelihood that visitors will be clear about what they can do on it and that they will. What does CTA mean? Most often it occurs in the form of underlined, highlighted text, sometimes an icon or graphic button. It is expressed in the form of a call to action arranged in such a form that the user knows exactly where he will land after clicking on it. An example of such a button can be “Read more”, “Buy now”, “Create an account”. See how this button looks on the main page of angelsounds.pl, where you can see two at the start, or on the lars.pl website, where the CTA button also greets you.

It’s also a great idea to add a live chat room, if only during business hours. Thanks to this, the probability of dispelling any doubts of a potential client, and hence the use of services offered on the website, increases. Try out how live chat works on our website iguanastudio.pl. By the way, you can order a website for yourself!

It is worth to include elements of storytelling on the website. Already putting a short film on the home page showing the company’s history will make the user feel a bit closer to it and probably more interested.

Above all, however, remember that the site must be used by the user. Regardless of how much you like the owner, if it is not practical from the user’s point of view, it will not bring profits. Therefore, the website should be easy to use, not overloaded with content, should be legible and load quickly. It is also worth remembering who the company’s services are addressed to – otherwise the website for children will look, and the advertizing product for seniors will be different.
